How often do you use the shower?

8 februari 2024

The poultry industry faces a number of challenges, among which is avian influenza. With this in mind, we would like to reiterate the importance of showering. The shower increases biosecurity, i.e. the package of preventive measures aimed at minimising the risk of introducing and spreading harmful organisms. The shower is a part of the complete package of hygiene measures. Showering before entry is particularly important to the safety of the poultry farm in question, while showering when leaving is vital to the poultry sector as a collective.

From 1 July 2028, it will become compulsory to have a walk through shower that complies with IKB Kip rules and regulations. If, as a poultry farmer, you have a shower on site that does not comply with the walk through principle, a transitional period will apply until 1 July 2028. This usually refers to a normal, single entry shower (same side in as out). As a single entry shower only has one door, there is no physical separation between the unclean and clean zones. This means that walking routes overlap and there is a risk of cross-contamination. You can read about shower compliance requirements and regulations on our website.
